FEB 7 : Ruckus Unplugged (duo)
With influences ranging from blues rockers like The Allman Brothers, to Alt Rockers like Red Hot Chili Peppers, to Jazz Legends like Buddy Rich, to Funksters like Prince and Outkast, it took The Ruckus a lot of time onstage to find “their sound”. By the time of the recording of our debut album, “A Light Inside”, they not only found it, but discovered it was unique – something that was theirs alone! Are they rock, are they blues, are they soul, we’re not really sure, but one thing is absolutely clear, The Ruckus ROCKS! They bring a crowd, and they put on a great show! Stemming from the original ideation of Alex Gross (bass) to form a musical act, the band was born. The three separate musicians all come from varying musical backgrounds that meld to form a differential yet very listenable sound. With the combination of Levi Fulton’s jazz and rock drumming prowess, Alex Gross’s range of mellifluous bass styles from jazz-fusion to singer-songwriter, and Sullivan Smither’s vocal, guitar, and piano attributions ranging in influence from alt. rock to punk to singer-songwriter. Thallassa Kent and Kelly Mullen are a powerhouse duo based out of Roanoke, Virginia. “Thally”, originally from Scotland, has powerful vocals and belts out great songs across country, rock, blues, and alternative genre’s. She’s somewhere between Alanis Morrisette and Janis Joplin! Kelly’s a powerful guitarist and singer in his own right.
